Alex, Kate and I FINALLY swam in Barton Springs Pool. Doug watched, not really liking to swim. Several weeks after some heavy rains and flooding of Barton Creek, the water was so clear with only a few water weeds grabbing me. The shadows and depths between the concrete edge, the deep gully in the center and teenage boys performing flips off the old driving board made this truly an iconic day. After almost two years in Austin, it took the two of them to convince me the swim would be fine, the natural springs not too cold, the freedom of swimming a quarter mile lap invigorating. Although I was chilled for several hours, even after a hot shower, it was quite a start to the weekend.
